The Duremdes family was selected by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as Philanthropists of the Year. They will be awarded at the ACS Donor Luncheon on October 21, 2021 at Washington D.C., USA.

Drs. Janelle Bermejo-Duremdes (CPU HS Class 1953, Pre-Med Class 1955) and Generoso Duremdes (Pre-Med Class 1955) have been donors of the university for many years. It is through their support that helped construct the Prayer Garden and revived the God’s Grace Program for the Work Students. They are also donors of the Golden Quenchers scholarship program of the Junior High School. Recently, they contributed P2,000,000 for the Senior High School classroom improvements through the Classroom Naming Rights Program. They are currently helping out Estancia Evangelical Church in northern Iloilo.

Through their philanthropic foundation, surgeons in rural Philippine communities have been given educational opportunities abroad. They have also generously supported the ACS Foundation since 1992 with financial contributions to their international scholarship fund.

The family moved to the United States in the early 1960s. For over 50 years, the Duremdes family has served the healthcare needs of the community in Princeton, West Virginia.
