Dr. Maredil R. Ambos is recognized as the Most Outstanding and Inspiring Professor of the 21st Century.
Dr. Maredil R. Ambos, EdD, DHum, FOPd, a pillar of the College of Education at Central Philippine University (CPU), has been recognized as the Most Outstanding and Inspiring Professor of the 21st Century at the 2024 World’s Phenomenal and Transformational Leadership Award last June 30 at Philippine Chen Kuang High School, San Juan City. It was organized by several groups including Great Idea Events Management Services and The Philippines Chen Kuang School, honors leaders who have made a significant impact in their fields. This prestigious award recognizes and celebrates world leaders (political, business), educators, scientists and reformists who have instigated profound transformation and inspired others through their actions, vision, and dedication. Through their incredible leadership skills, they have made a lasting difference in various fields, such as education, business, society, healthcare, and more.
Hailing from Damayan, Sapi-an, Capiz, Dr. Ambos currently serves as the Professional Education Subjects Coordinator at Central Philippine University’s College of Education (CPU). Dr. Ambos’ journey to this remarkable achievement is a testament to unwavering dedication, innovative teaching methodologies, and a profound impact on both students and colleagues.
In an exclusive interview following his recognition, Dr. Ambos shared his thoughts on what this award signifies for him both personally and professionally. “Receiving the award as the Most Outstanding and Inspiring Professor of the 21st Century not only celebrates individual achievement but also uplifts the teaching profession as a whole,” he remarked. “It validates my contributions to educational history and encourages me to continue making a difference. Professionally, it marks a significant milestone, opening doors to new opportunities and elevating my profile within academia and beyond.”
Dr. Ambos’ teaching philosophy centers around Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Outcome-Based Education (OBE). These methodologies encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and multidisciplinary learning, preparing students for the complexities of the modern world. He emphasizes flexibility in teaching, acknowledging that each student’s learning journey is unique, and technology plays a crucial role in tailoring educational experiences to meet diverse needs.
Reflecting on his impact, Dr. Ambos recounted heartfelt moments with his students, particularly during graduation ceremonies. “Almost all our graduating students take selfies with me and express their gratitude for being part of their journey. Many of them stay in touch, sharing their successes and thanking me for the guidance and support I provided,” he shared. His influence extends beyond the classroom, with many of his mentees achieving national recognition in various fields, from the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines to the Outstanding Students of YMCA.
When asked about the essential qualities for educators in the 21st century, Dr. Ambos highlighted the 4Cs: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration. These competencies, he believes, are vital for students to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape. “An educator must be a lifelong learner, adapting to emerging technologies and trends to remain relevant and effective,” he added.
Dr. Ambos’ commitment to his craft is evident in his continuous pursuit of excellence. He actively engages with the latest teaching trends and technologies, ensuring his methods remain contemporary and impactful. His advice to aspiring educators is to embrace feedback, differentiate learning, and foster strong connections with students, as these relationships enhance classroom behavior and participation.
Looking ahead, Dr. Ambos envisions himself as a catalyst for change at CPU. “I aim to equip students to be knowledgeable, capable, moral, and well-rounded citizens,” Dr. Ambos said. This vision aligns with CPU’s legacy of academic excellence, blending Science and Faith to create well-informed individuals.
In closing, Dr. Ambos expressed heartfelt gratitude to CPU for molding him into the educator he is today. “I am what I am because of CPU. The university has provided me with countless opportunities to grow and excel. Being awarded as the Outstanding Alumnus of CPU in the Field of Education last year was a highlight of my career, and I am forever grateful,” Dr. Ambos affirmed.
