“The pandemic continues, but this should not be a hindrance on the development of education, particularly with agriculture,” said Dr. Jaime C. Cabarles – Dean of the College of Agriculture, Resources and Environmental Sciences (C.A.R.E.S.)

Cabarles observes that “the alternative application of the virtual classroom was brought about by necessity-due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are particularly considering an opportunity in the next level where we shall adapt the Canvas Learning Management System for our online instruction.” Asked about how laboratory work and actual farm practice results are to be delivered by students, he said that “we can revise modules in view of the current situation.” Cabarles also contemplates on the use of blended earning, and face-to-face learning if allowed.

The CARES, formerly the College of Agriculture is a progressive unit of Central Philippine University that has produced many successful agriculturists, businessmen, farmers and government heads of the Department of Agriculture.

Dr. Cabarles has been helping farmers in livelihood programs through the various programs of CARES. Presently, he oversees the management of the CPU farm in Zarraga.

Dr. Cabarles is a Department of Agriculture awardee for his research on Commercial Production of Philippine Native Chicken. He is the host of the CPU-DA sponsored radio program “Kadalag-an sa Kaum-han” over local radio DYRI from 3:00 until 4:00 in the morning daily (Monday to Friday) and at 4:00 to 4:30 AM on Saturdays.
