A “Seminar-Workshop on the Tools and Techniques Used for Qualitative and Quantitative Research” was organized by the Department of Languages, Mass Communication, and Humanities from the College of Arts and Sciences on November 20, 2024, held at the Gallery on the Fourth Floor of Henry Luce III Library. The said workshop highlighted the importance of mastering both qualitative and quantitative methods to create meaningful and impactful thesis papers.
The seminar workshop was conducted the whole day; the said event provided valuable insights and practical knowledge. It aimed to help students improve their research writing, expand their knowledge of tools, techniques, and data analysis used in qualitative and quantitative research from expert speakers, and equip them with the necessary information to excel in their research and academic work.
The event started with an invocation led by Kairos Rye A. Jalando-on, a third-year student and treasurer of the CPU Communication Circle. This was followed by the National Anthem and the CPU Alma Mater, both played through a video.
Prof. Evy Jansien Victoria P. Casas, faculty member of the DLMCH, kicked off the program with the event’s rationale, which effectively set a thoughtful tone for the day. Following this, Dr. Stella G. Encio, the resource speaker, began the morning session by discussing research formats (APA 7th Edition) and contents for qualitative and quantitative research as prescribed by Central Philippine University. He provided a detailed explanation of how to correctly apply APA formatting styles in research writing. This included understanding the structure of a research paper, organizing it properly, and following content guidelines meticulously.
Furthermore, Dr. Joy G. Raso, the chair of the CPU RERB, delivered an insightful presentation on the Ethics Guidelines for Qualitative and Quantitative Research that involves respondents. She highlighted the crucial importance of ethical considerations in research, emphasizing that high-quality papers must also protect participants’ rights.
In the afternoon session, Prof. Tony Ray A. Canaman introduced various tools and techniques for data analysis in quantitative research, covering key topics such as measurable data, statistics, variables, and more.
Following this, Dr. Joel Durban led a session on data analysis tools and techniques specifically for qualitative research.
The seminar-workshop concluded by awarding the certificates to the speakers, and the closing prayer led by Pure Grace Melody D. Jotiz, a fourth-year student and president of the CPU Communication Circle, ended the program.
