Central Philippine University (CPU) hosted a comprehensive orientation seminar for its newly hired faculty and staff on September 30 and October 3, 2024, at the Educational Media Center (EMC). Organized by the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), the event aimed to integrate new members into the CPU community, providing them with crucial information about the university’s mission, culture, and employment benefits.
The first day of orientation began with a registration process, followed by a heartfelt Song of Praise that set an uplifting tone for the event. Rev. Cris Amorsolo V. Sian, Senior Pastor of the University Church, led the opening prayer, asking for wisdom and guidance for the new hires.
Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, CPU’s University President, delivered the welcome remarks, expressing the administration’s excitement in having fresh talent join the CPU family. Mr. Ferdinand T. Monoso, President of the Faculty Association (CPU-FA), and Ms. Ma. Victoria G. Bellosillo, President of the Rank-and-File Labor Union (CPU-RAFLU), both welcomed the new hires, highlighting CPU’s supportive and empowering work environment. They emphasized the value of camaraderie, respect, and cooperation within the workforce.
Rev. Dr. Francis Neil G. Jalando-on, Director of the CPU Office of Communications, presented CPU’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, and University Culture. His session served as a foundational introduction to what makes CPU a distinctive educational institution, highlighting its commitment to service, excellence, and faith.
The afternoon session started with an energizer activity that helped boost morale and encouraged interaction among attendees. Dr. Rodel C. Palomar, HR Director, discussed employee benefits, followed by a detailed talk on retirement policies by Dr. Jet R. Nillos, Retirement Officer. Both sessions offered valuable insights into the privileges and security offered by CPU to its employees.
An open forum was held to address questions from the new hires, providing clarity on matters concerning their roles, expectations, and general employment policies. This was followed by a team-building activity aimed at helping the new hires get to know each other better through fun activities. The lively session fostered unity and built a sense of camaraderie among the participants.
The seminar concluded with a closing prayer by Pastor Neva Grace L. Fabila, who wished the new employees’ strength and success in their journey with CPU.
On October 3, a mandatory Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) seminar was conducted by Prim C. Vergara III, CPU’s Occupational Safety and Health Officer. The session emphasized the importance of workplace safety and provided essential information on hazard identification, prevention, and response procedures.
The orientation seminar was a resounding success, providing a warm welcome to the new hires and equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in their new roles at the University.
