Mr. Ascencion O. Bautista, Director of the Central Philippine University (CPU) Symphonic Band, has been honored as one of the recipients of the Bugal Agustino Award (USA Band) on the occasion of the 121st Founding Anniversary of the University of San Agustin.

The awarding ceremony, held on July 13, 2025, at the 7th Floor of the CPMT Building, was part of the USA@120 Bugal Awards, which honored outstanding alumni who have brought pride through excellence in their respective fields.

Bautista, who has led the CPU Symphonic Band and taught band for nearly 23 years, was recognized for his unwavering dedication to music education, public performance, and community engagement through music ministry. Under his leadership, the band has become a fixture in liturgical services, civic programs, and musical events throughout the province and beyond.

In a heartfelt message, Bautista expressed his surprise and gratitude upon learning about his nomination: “It was around 12 noon on July 4, 2025, when my band batchmate sent me a screenshot of the USA Bugal Award nominations. I did not expect it at all, and I was truly surprised to see my name included. Most of my co-nominees are band directors from other prestigious universities, accomplished musicians, and performers both locally and abroad.”

“Nearly 23 years of teaching band and still counting, along with performing in public concerts, working as a symphony conductor and arranger, and serving as a saxophone soloist and entertainer for various occasions, have given me countless opportunities to touch the lives of people who share a passion for music. But more than that, being able to help transform a child’s simple musical interest into a thriving future as a successful musician is the legacy I am most proud of,” he remarked.

He expressed his gratitude to the University of San Agustin for recognizing his contributions to music, and to Central Philippine University for providing the platform to nurture and share his talent. He concluded by saying, “Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Bautista’s recognition as a Bugal sang Agustino Awardee reflects his dedication to music, teaching, and service. His journey continues to inspire young musicians and the Centralian community, showing how passion and hard work can leave a lasting impact.
