Pambansang Awit and Alma Mater Song (Central, my Central) performed by the virtual CPU Symphonic Band.
The CPU Symphonic Band continues to adapt to the new normal. Since practices are not allowed inside the campus due to safety protocols, 26 full-time performers continue to practice at home.
Some members were allowed to bring home musical instruments for virtual rehearsals. Their outputs are sent to CPU Symphonic Band Master Mr. Ascencion “Icyn” Bautista for synchronization in his office at the Fine Arts building in CPU. These consolidated musical pieces are fine-tuned. Their music will be used in videos for upcoming university events produced by the CPU TV Channel.
Through his leadership, “Icyn”, a master musician and experienced band conductor has brought CPU Symphonic band to popularity with performances in government and school functions, malls and hotels – until the pandemic forced the group to stop due to health and safety regulations of the government and the University.
With the needs of the band members in mind, Bautista sincerely submitted a proposal to the University President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, stating among others the need for a scholarship of the student members to continue. It also assured that their regular chores will continue through virtual practice with members of the Band. The proposal was approved by the University President on July 23, 2020.
According to Bautisa, “It will not be difficult to connect with my Band members since we have maintained online correspondence since 2015. Our videos, schedules of engagements, and activities are posted in our closed group account”. The Symphonic Band members are Junior and Senior High School and college students of the university.
