Student-teachers from Central Philippine University (CPU) are stepping beyond their limits as they set out on an international tour as part of a student exchange program. The participants are set to explore educational boundaries, engage in cross-cultural learning, and gain valuable teaching experiences in Indonesia and Vietnam.
Before the students packed their bags, Prof. Lesley L. Dignadice, Acting Director of the Local and International Linkages and Affiliations Center (LILAC), held an orientation for the future educators. She provided essential travel tips and important information that the interns needed to keep in mind for their journey abroad.
Following the orientation at the LILAC, the student-teachers were escorted to the President’s Office for a courtesy call. The meeting, held on February 7, 2025, featured an inspiring message from CPU President Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy. In his message, Dr. Dagohoy congratulated the students and encouraged them to represent CPU with pride as they embarked on their international internship experience.
The participants coming from CPU-College of Education (CPU-COED), are set to join various universities in Indonesia and Vietnam. The first group of student-teachers includes Fan Li Kien De Vera (4th Year BSED Major in Science), Adrian A. Ponce, and Rhizel Fate V. Siva (4th Year BSED Major in English), who will spend three months at the Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI) in Jakarta under the CHED-IAS Student Exchange Program.
Additionally, Genie Lyn S. Entico (4th Year BSED Major in Science) and Heinz C. Solo (4th Year BSNED) will join the group at UKI for one month through the SEAMEO SEA-Teacher Program. Meanwhile, Shirnelie Bless D. Caro and Glorie Anne T. Gange (4th Year BSED Major in English) will head to Petra Christian University (PCU) in Surabaya, Indonesia, also under the CHED-IAS Student Exchange Program. Lastly, Melisa O. Derramas and Ivy Jane D. Ortega (4th Year BSED Major in English) will be traveling to Tra Vinh University in Vietnam for three months, also under the CHED-IAS program.
Five of the students departed for UKI on February 11, 2025. The remaining students will depart for their respective destinations in the coming weeks, with two traveling to PCU on February 18 and two to Tra Vinh University on February 21, 2025.
This international tour underscores CPU’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and expanding educational opportunities. It provides an invaluable chance for the students to grow personally and professionally, allowing them to share their skills and knowledge beyond the borders of the Philippines. The experience will undoubtedly be a treasured chapter in their journey as future educators.
