Christian Lexis Tan, a 22-year-old BS Computer Science incoming fourth-year student at Central Philippine University (CPU), has been nominated for the Outstanding Student Leader of the Region for the AcadArena Awards 2024.

Tan, who serves as President of Golden Lions Esports, expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude upon learning of the nomination. He attributed the recognition to his dedication and hard work in serving the university and the gaming community.

As a leader, Tan has spearheaded numerous initiatives focused on student welfare and community service. His involvement in organizations like the Province of Computer Studies Council and Golden Lions Esports has provided valuable leadership experiences.

Balancing his passion for leadership and gaming, Tan emphasizes their complementary nature. He believes leadership skills enhance gaming performance, while gaming hones perseverance and adaptability – essential qualities for a leader.

Tan’s leadership extends beyond the campus. He served as Chairman of the Western Visayas Conference of the Alliance Games, collaborating with various student organizations to promote esports and recognize student leaders.

When asked about qualities of a successful student leader, Tan highlighted effective communication, empathy, resilience, and integrity. He emphasized understanding and addressing students’ needs while maintaining transparency and honesty.

“I hope to inspire others to take the next step, not to be afraid of assuming greater responsibilities, and to contribute positively to their respective communities, whether in gaming, academics, or beyond,” Tan said.

As the voting period for the AcadArena Awards closes on July 17, 2024, Tan and his organization are actively campaigning for votes through social media and word-of-mouth.

“To the students considering voting for me, I express utmost gratitude for your support. This recognition extends beyond me to Golden Lions Esports and our numerous finalist nominations. It wouldn’t be possible without my colleagues and our passionate community. You are all a part of this,” he said.

Tan hopes his nomination inspires students to pursue passions and positively impact their communities. He believes hard work, dedication, and a selfless attitude are key to success.
