The winner of this year’s S7GRAB’S Best Short Film, “Ang Special Batsoy ni Iloy” from the College of Hospitality and Management.

The Rose Memorial Auditorium was ablaze with talent and creativity as Central Philippine University’s annual Sigrab Film Festival concluded its Awards Night on March 26, 2024. The event, which showcased the cinematic endeavours of the university’s budding filmmakers, crowned “Ang Special Batsoy ni Iloy” from the College of Hospitality Management as the Best Short Film of the year.

Among the standout entries were “Amo gid na ya” from the College of Arts and Sciences, honored with the Special Jury Prize as the first runner-up, and “Magbulobalikid” from the College of Nursing, securing the 2nd Jury Prize as the second runner-up.

The festival, which serves as a platform for young Centralian filmmakers to showcase their storytelling prowess and creative visions, featured a diverse selection of 12 compelling films from various colleges and departments. Each film sought to make a meaningful impact, addressing a range of social issues and personal narratives.

Throughout the evening, attendees were treated to an array of cinematic experiences, reflecting the rich tapestry of perspectives and talents within the Central Philippine University community. The Awards Night not only celebrated the achievements of the winning filmmakers but also highlighted the collaborative spirit and dedication of all participants in bringing their visions to the screen.

As the curtains closed on another successful edition of the Sigrab Film Festival, the Central Philippine University community looks forward to the continued growth and innovation of its emerging filmmakers, who continue to inspire and captivate audiences with their creative endeavors.

“I extend my gratitude to Sir Daryl Lutero, a faculty member of the Social Sciences Department in CAS, for his invaluable encouragement and guidance throughout my writing process. Additionally, I am grateful to CPU for providing me with this opportunity and to Scranton Women’s Leadership Center for hosting the contest. I also want to thank my loved ones for their support and belief in me. Finally, I am also grateful to the Province of Arts and Sciences Student Council for providing me with opportunities to grow as a leader and make a positive impact within my community,” she added.

On March 29, 2024, a total of 40 winners were selected throughout the evaluation process and recognized through the SWLC’s website. The winners will be selected as Scranton scholars for the year 2024 and will also receive an additional scholarship of US$500, which can be used for their school fees, books, housing, etc.

The online award ceremony is scheduled on April 26, 2024. The winning articles will be posted on the ‘Scranton Square’ tab of the SWLC’s website.
