With the goal of nurturing stronger families and more resilient learners, Central Philippine University (CPU) conducted a lecture series on responsible parenting, adolescent mental health, and instructional materials development on October 25, 2025 in Barangay Badiang, New Lucena, Iloilo.

The event was organized by the Community Engagement and Service-Learning (CESL) Center with CESL Director Sarex Dalida Dipol, Jr., in partnership with the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), headed by Acting Dean Dr. Althea U. Denuevo with Outreach Program Coordinator Dr. Bibiana C. Espina.

Three simultaneous sessions tackled topics tailored for the around 50 participants comprising parents, youth, and teachers.

During the session on parenting, Dr. Margen A. Java discussed “Parent-Child Tandem for Family Success,” emphasizing the value of open communication and shared responsibility in nurturing healthy family relationships.

Speaking to the youth participants, Mary Catherine Grace Simora talked about “True Love Waits,” underscoring emotional maturity, respect, and self-worth in navigating relationships.

Meanwhile, teachers participated in a session on Instructional Materials Development with Dr. Eden P. Gomez, who focused on designing effective and engaging learning tools.

SGS faculty members and students of the Doctor of Education, Master of Arts in Education, Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling and Master in Business Administration programs joined the outreach and served as facilitators and moderators of the lecture sessions.

“We are very lucky and thankful for the CPU Graduate Studies for this opportunity,” said Barangay Captain Randy Tolentino of Barangay Badiang.

At the end of the lectures, the participants shared their reflections and gathered in a fellowship lunch that fostered dialogue and connection among them.
