The Central Philippine University (CPU) School of Graduate Studies strengthened its commitment to research excellence as key academic leaders participated in the Training Workshop on Advances in Peer-Reviewing and Thesis Writing for Article and Book Publication held on July 28–30, 2025 at Panglao Island, Bohol, Philippines.

Representing CPU were Dr. Althea U. Denuevo, Assistant Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, and program heads Dr. Renia F. De La Peña (Doctor of Management, major in Public Management) and Dr. Ananias C. Sabijon, Jr. (Doctor of Education, major in Curriculum and Instruction). The other training participants were from Pangasinan State University, Cebu Normal University, Palawan State University, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Notre Dame of Jolo College, Lyceum of the Philippines (Davao), University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, University of Bohol, Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, Philippine Electronics and Communication Institute of Technology, St. Peter’s College of Toril, Inc., Assumption College of Davao, and Samar State University.

The workshop, facilitated by the International Association of Research Ethics Across Disciplines, featured Dr. Genaro V. Gapos as the main speaker and resource person. It sought to deepen participants’ understanding of the peer-review process and its role in advancing academic publishing. More specifically, through a series of lectures, interactive exercises, and guided writing sessions, the participants were trained to: 1) comprehend the principles and ethical foundations of peer review in academic publishing; 2) apply practical skills in writing, reviewing, and structuring research articles, theses, and book chapters; and 3) strategically plan publication pathways and avoid common pitfalls in the publishing process. More importantly, the participants also served as peer reviewers of actual research papers and were awarded the certificate as external referees.

The CPU delegation expressed sincerest appreciation to Dr. Rowena Libo-on, Dean of the CPU School of Graduate Studies, and CPU President Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy for their strong support in advancing the professional growth and scholarly capacity of CPU School of Graduate Studies academic heads.

Irrefutably, the training reinforced CPU’s mission to uphold the highest standards of research integrity, foster academic productivity, and contribute to the global body of knowledge through quality publications.
