CPU Republic representatives celebrate their First Place win in the Youth for UNESCO International Assembly 2025 Short Film–College Category for their film “A Person With This Ability.”
Last November 23, 2025, the CPU Republic proudly secured First Place in the prestigious Youth for UNESCO International Assembly 2025 – Short Film College Category, held in Nasugbu, Batangas. The winning entry, a remarkable film entitled “A Person With This Ability,” highlights the importance of diversity and inclusivity, particularly in relation to persons with disabilities. This achievement not only reflects the creativity and dedication of the student leaders behind the project but also amplifies a powerful message of resilience, representation, and empowerment.
The film centers on the story of Roemm, portrayed by Senator John Roemm Carreon, a young man born with a cleft palate. Inspired by true events, the narrative follows his journey as an aspiring student leader who navigates challenges and discrimination due to his condition. Instead of allowing these struggles to hinder him, Roemm transforms them into a driving force toward success. His determination ultimately leads him to win as a student leader, standing as a testament to the idea that individuals are not defined by their disabilities or hardships, but by their abilities, persistence, and courage.
Behind this impactful film is a passionate creative team. It was directed by Representative Francyn Joyce Algarja and co-directed by Senator Kirsten Lorraine Orleans, whose shared vision was to elevate a story that resonates with audiences and promotes awareness of inclusivity. The screenplay was written by Governor Robby Marvyn Arnillo, whose script captured the emotional depth and authenticity of Roemm’s experiences. The film’s visuals and production were skillfully crafted by Anna Marie Gaitan and Andrei Mecenas, whose cinematography brought the story to life in a compelling and heartfelt manner. A special appreciation is also extended to Teatro, Sining, Atbp., for bringing the characters to life on screen.
The CPU Republic’s victory in the Youth for UNESCO International Assembly 2025 is more than just an award—it is a meaningful milestone that underscores the transformative power of storytelling. By shining a light on the lived experiences of persons with disabilities, the film encourages viewers to embrace diversity, challenge prejudice, and uplift voices often overlooked. This accomplishment serves as an inspiring reminder that true strength lies not in the absence of challenges, but in the unwavering spirit to rise above them.
