World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines and Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines awards plaque of appreciation to Central Philippine University and Prof. Sarex Dalida Dipol, Jr. (CESLC Acting Director).
Last Friday, November 22, 2024, Central Philippine University received recognition from the World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines and Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines for its active participation in addressing the dilemmas faced by the Tigum-Aganan Watershed. This watershed is the city and selected municipalities of the Iloilo province’s primary water source.
Earlier this year, the whole country and some parts of the Asia-Pacific region experienced long periods of drought and extreme temperature, which was detrimental to human health and the ecosystem and caused significant losses in fisheries and agriculture.
Due to the natural events, the two non-government organizations called the attention of the private and public sectors of the city and province of Iloilo to review and revive the Tigum-Aganan Management Board. Central Philippine University, one of the private sectors, participated in activating and examining the plans created three decades ago.
A conference was held, resulting in CESL Acting Director Prof. Sarex Dalida Dipol, Jr. planning to establish a Center for Watershed and Ecological Services (CWES) in a government-owned space in the Tigum-Aganan Watershed. This environmental center will orchestrate various outreach programs, services, activities, and projects to promote water security in the city and province of Iloilo.
A plaque of appreciation was awarded to Central Philippine University and CESL Acting Director Prof. Dipol, Jr. with CPU alumnae participants Ms. Febie S. Ibojos, director of Signpost Philippines Inc. and Dr. Jessica C. Salas, consultant of WWF-Daloy Project. Meanwhile, Dr. Mary O’ T. Penetrante received an award for Central Philippine University. This recognition is given to those participants who actively and scholarly participated in formulating solutions faced by the watershed.
