CPU Property Custodian and ground personnel prepare and repair armchairs for donation to Alberto Sorsogon Memorial National High School, an adopted secondary school of the University in Pototan, Iloilo.
On August 8, 2025, CPU donated seventy (70) armchairs donated seventy (70) armchairs to Alberto Sorongon National High School located in Brgy. Iwa-Macatol, Pototan, Iloilo. This initiative was spurred by a request from Dr. Arlyn C. Gallega, the Officer-in-Charge of the school, who mentioned that the adopted secondary school is experiencing a shortage of armchairs. The need for additional seating was further highlighted by the school principal, who noted that the school is facing a shortage of one hundred sixty-three (163) armchairs.
As a result, some students used monoblocks and stall chairs donated by generous members of the community. While these options are appreciated, they tend to be less comfortable for the students. In this context, the addition of armchairs has been a tremendous support in alleviating the challenges faced during the teaching and learning process. Moreover, the school is also grappling with a shortage of classrooms and instructional materials, particularly in the science and technology disciplines.
This adopted school is one of many public institutions across the country that face a range of challenges, including insufficient instructional materials, inadequate learning support facilities, and a lack of laboratories and other essential resources. Central Philippine University is dedicated to assisting these adopted schools in overcoming their obstacles. Among the University’s educational initiatives are the provision of school supplies, a school-based feeding program, the supply of instructional materials such as books, cabinets, and tables, as well as training and seminars for teachers.
In addition to students and academic staff, non-academic personnel actively participate in the University’s outreach activities and various social development initiatives. Notably, the CPU Property Custodian and ground personnel are consistently engaged in these efforts.
