CPU OSHO and CHM conduct the First Fire Drill after the Pandemic, with BFP Jaro personnel supervision.

A few days after the Occupational Safety and Health Office (OSHS) held a fire drill on April 12, 2013, Mr. Prim Vergara, Head of OSHS had a conversation with The Weekly Centralian Link. He said that “it was the first fire prevention activity since the Covid19 Pandemic protocol prohibited all crowded and face-to-face activities in the campus. The fire drill aims to provide organizational and personal awareness for each college in CPU.”

The activity was attended by 30 students of the College of Hospitality Management near the Dr. Lucio Tan Building. It was supervised by the Bureau of Fire Protection, Jaro Station personnel. With the prevailing heat index and incidence of destructive fires in Iloilo City, the BFP conducts awareness drills and seminars around the city, particularly in schools.

The outcome of activity resulted to a satisfactory rating that included personnel safety and provision of fire equipment by the University, according to Vergara.

The BFP Fire Drill provided a familiarization of proper evacuation practices. “The goal is to have proper actions and automatic response-when the fire alarms sound”, according to a BFP Fire Officer. He added that “The more familiar the staff with fire drill procedures, the safer the personnel can remain in an emergency. The BFP regular fire drills help underpin the correct procedures in times of emergencies.
