CPU offers BS Biology with specializations in Microbiology and Medical Biology. Pubmat by CPU Biological Society.
The Life and Sciences Department under the CPU College of Arts and Sciences offers two specializations in Bachelor of Science in Biology, which are Microbiology and Medical Biology. It is a four-year degree program that offers general education in different biological sciences such as Zoology, Genetics, Botany, etc., with an emphasis on the study of plants, animals, and microbial fields.
This field of study is an opportunity for students who want to study microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and fungi. This also helps them learn about social and environmental issues such as population control, heredity, and environmental preservation.
Dr. Stella Fernandez, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, is a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Biology batch of 1988 at Central Philippine University. “We have already registered microbiologists. Even if you are a graduate of BS Biology with a specialization in Microbiology, you can still proceed to medicine. Some graduates of BS Biology with specialization in Medical Biology are now studying in the College of Medicine,” Dr. Fernandez shared during the said interview.
For the emphasis on specialization in microbiology, graduates of the said program can take the PAM Certification Examination by the Philippine Academy for Microbiology. The PAM Certification Examination is a rigorous test designed to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and competency of professionals in the field of microbiology. As registered medical microbiologists, they can work in the food industry and other areas that deal with microorganisms.
“With the interest, especially in the use of microorganisms and microscopes, and with special skills, I would encourage them to enroll here in CPU under the program of Bachelor of Science in Biology with Specialization in Microbiology and Medical Biology because they have many avenues to go with the industry and even can teach in graduate schools and research as well,” she emphasized.
In line with this, the CPU College Aptitude Test (CPUCAT) is now open for admissions for incoming freshmen for School Year 2024-2025. For more information, kindly access this link: https://cpu.edu.ph/announcements_event/cpu-college-aptitude-test-cpucat-for-incoming-freshmen-for-sy-2024-2025/
