Event highlights CPU’s Math and Physics Department outreach at Culasi National and Elementary Schools, providing hands-on experiments and innovative teaching strategies to support teachers and enhance student learning.

The Math and Physics Department of Central Philippine University (CPU), under the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), conducted a successful outreach program at Culasi National High School and Culasi Elementary School on February 27, 2026.

The initiative aimed to support Science and Mathematics teachers, as well as Senior High School students, by sharing practical, innovative, and sustainable teaching strategies suited for resource-limited classrooms.

For the high school department, Physics faculty members facilitated hands-on experiments using low-cost, improvised, and locally available materials in teaching fundamental Physics concepts. The demonstrations highlighted how everyday materials can be used effectively for classroom experiments, particularly in schools with limited laboratory equipment. Students and teachers actively participated in the activities, observing and performing experiments.

Simultaneously, Mathematics faculty members conducted the Teaching Teachers to Teach Mathematics (T4M) workshop for elementary and secondary mathematics teachers. The session focused on enhancing mathematics instruction through effective pedagogical strategies, problem-solving approaches, and learner-centered teaching methods. Participants engaged in collaborative discussions and workshop activities, including the use of manipulatives designed to enhance conceptual understanding and classroom engagement.

The outreach concluded with messages of appreciation from the school administrators and faculty members, who acknowledged the value of the training and demonstrations provided.

The program reflects CPU’s continued commitment to community engagement and educational development. Through partnerships with local schools, the Math and Physics Department extend its academic expertise beyond the university, contributing to the professional growth of teachers and supporting improved learning experiences for students.
