Central Philippine University (CPU) officially launched the Christ Emphasis Week (CEW) Songwriting Competition on February 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the CPU University Church. The launch marked the beginning of preparations for this semester’s CEW, which carries the theme, “The Crucial Decision,” based on Acts 16:30–31.
The event formally opened with a prayer led by Pastor Louvel Edson Caspe, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Rev. Dr. Cris Amorsolo V. Sian then delivered his words of welcome and greetings, setting the tone for the spiritual significance of the activity.
This semester’s CEW theme draws from Acts 16:30–31: “He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.’” The songwriting competition aims to creatively express this message through music, encouraging students to reflect on their faith and the importance of choosing Christ.
During the program, the organizers presented the mechanics of the contest, including the judging criteria, rubrics, and prizes. The winning composition was announced to serve as the official theme song for this semester’s Christ Emphasis Week.
The panel of judges was introduced before the competing praise teams took the stage. The College of Theology opened the competition with their piece, “When the Gospel Came, I Believe.” This was followed by the College of Arts and Sciences with their song, “Say Yes, Only Jesus,” which they shared was written through prayer and with spiritual guidance.
The College of Computer Studies performed “This Is Where I Start,” a composition that reflected on the moment when fear meets faith and the decision to trust Christ fully. The College of Engineering concluded the performances with their entry titled “I Say.”
While awaiting the results, certificates of participation were awarded to the competing praise teams and certificates of appreciation were given to the judges.
Rev. Dr. Cris Amorsolo V. Sian later announced the winners of the competition. The College of Theology received fourth place and a consolation award for the same. The College of Computer Studies secured third place, receiving ₱2,000 and a certificate of recognition. The College of Engineering earned second place, receiving ₱3,000 and a certificate of recognition. The College of Arts and Sciences emerged as the champion, marking its second consecutive win in the competition.
Following the announcement, the winning team performed the newly selected CEW theme song. The program concluded with a closing prayer and benediction by Pastor Karel Victoria.
The opening celebration of Christ Emphasis Week will be held this afternoon, February 27 (Friday), from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the Rose Memorial Auditorium. Offices will close, and classes will end at 3:45 PM to allow personnel to prepare for the opening celebration. The CEW celebration will continue until next week and will be held at various venues across the campus. All students, faculty, and staff are required to attend.
The launch of the Christ Emphasis Week Songwriting Competition highlighted the University’s commitment to fostering faith-centered creativity among students as they prepare for the upcoming CEW celebration.
