In collaboration with the CPU Local and International Linkages and Affiliation Center (CPU LILAC), Central Philippine University Junior High School (CPU-JHS) Grade 10 – Newton welcomed 9 Korean student delegates from Gyerim Middle School, South Korea, for an engaging cultural and educational exchange on November 26, 2024. The interactive activity took place at the 4th floor Gallery of the Henry Luce III Library (HLL), creating an immersive experience that bridged the cultural gap between the students of both schools.

The event began with a cultural presentation by selected CPU-JHS students, who showcased the vibrant traditions of the Philippines, providing the Korean delegates with an immersive glimpse into the nation’s heritage.

Ms. Eun Kyung Cho, Principal of Gyerim Middle School, expressed her gratitude in a heartfelt welcome message, commending the warm hospitality and the meaningful exchange of ideas. Following her, Maám Juvi Joy D. Guatelara, Science Coordinator and adviser of SSC 10 – Newton, also delivered a welcome address, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in enhancing students’ learning experiences.

The delegates from Gyerim Middle School then took the stage, presenting an insightful overview of their school and its programs. The Korean students introduced their hometown, Gyeongju, a city known for its cultural and historical significance. They also shared information about Gyerim Middle School and its innovative Open Lab, a space dedicated to scientific exploration and creativity.

In the self-introduction segment, students from both schools shared their favorite subjects and hobbies, fostering a lively exchange that strengthened cross-cultural bonds.

The highlight of the event was the interactive activity led by Mr. Lee Gong-Eun, a Science Teacher from Gyerim Middle School, who guided the students in creating infrared robots. This hands-on project captivated participants, sparking their interest in robotics and promoting teamwork.

The collaboration between CPU and Gyerim Middle School not only enriched students’ educational experiences but also cultivated meaningful friendships, underscoring the value of global partnerships in education.
