On March 29, 2025, Grade 12 HUMSS students of Central Philippine University came together for a heartwarming community engagement at Brgy. Bito-on New Site Gym, inspiring young minds through educational activities, fun games, and the gift of school supplies and hygiene kits.

On the 29th day of March 2025, the Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students of Central Philippine University (CPU) took part in a meaningful community engagement initiative at Brgy. Bito-on New Site Gym, with the theme “Connect, Care, Celebrate: Uniting our Communities, Nurturing Young Hearts, and Cherishing Milestones,” which fostered learning, fun, and service to the community, especially for the youth.

It was designed for both Bito-on I and II Day Care Center preschoolers. These kids are at a stage of exploring and discovering the importance of education and they need to be guided in each step of their way to educational development. For them to foster learning, the activity was created to educate children on proper hygiene at a young age while encouraging fun and interactive learning experiences.

Spearheaded by Mrs. Liezl Martinez, alongside her co-teachers, and students under the HUMSS strand, the event was made possible, providing every child during the event not only the essential school supplies and hygiene kits needed for everyday life, but also a strong foundation in healthy lifestyle, and education.

The event featured face painting, a Zumba dancing session with the volunteers, and fun games for everyone to engage in, making children build confidence, as well as interactive skills. It highlighted storytelling and a short lecture that gave importance to the practices of hygiene. Lastly, it included a gift-giving activity, where sets of school supplies and hygiene kits were distributed for them to be encouraged to healthy habits while learning beyond the event. The program concluded with the awarding of certificates as an appreciation for all the Barangay Officials and two child development workers who helped to make the event successful.

Additionally, each of the students across all three sections in the HUMSS 12 class donated coloring books that were helpful to improve the creativity, and imagination of every child.

The said activity was a part of the curriculum for students in HUMSS class, aimed to apply classroom learnings from the previous semesters through real-world community engagement. Beyond fulfilling academic requirements under this course, it allowed students to create a positive impact through interactive activities, educational workshops, and outreach programs.

For the ‘Humanistas’ — students under the HUMSS strand— it was not just about complying with academic requirements but an opportunity to connect with the community and create a change through simple acts of kindness.

Looking forward, the success of this event will continue to inspire others, ignite the passion to serve, and nurture a more inclusive community.
