Last February 10, 2024, Hon. Gervacio I. Piator, member of the Professional Regulation Commission Board of Accountancy visited Central Philippine University to hold consultations with the deans, faculty members, and graduating BS Accountancy Students of the various schools and universities offering the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree program. The faculty consultation meeting was held at the New Valentine Building Audio Visual Room, and the student consultation meeting was held at the Conference Room at the 4th Floor of the Alfonso Uy Student Union Building.

A photo opportunity was held after Hon. Gervacio I. Piator, a member of the Professional Regulation Commission Board of Accountancy, attended a faculty consultation meeting at the New Valentine Building Audio Visual Room.

With the faculty, Hon. Piator gave updates on the direction of the Certified Public Accountant profession, including the use of the CPDAS (Continuing Professional Development Accreditation System) portal for the application of training and seminars as Self-Directed Learning (SDL). Further, he explained that SDL seminars and webinars can be credited for the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units for CPAs. He also urged the Accountancy faculty members to comply with the Accreditation requirements for Accounting Teachers and highly recommended to apply for ASEAN CPA qualifications to enhance the quality of accounting education in the Philippines. The Philippine Institute of CPAs Iloilo Chapter President Prof. Benmar Panaguiton and the Association of CPAs in Education President and Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy Dr. Lorna T. Grande spearheaded the event.

In his consultation session with the students, Hon. Piator gave tips on preparing for the Licensure Examination for CPAs (LECPA), emphasizing that the LECPA is a test of preparedness to enter the Accountancy profession. Iloilo Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants Ms. Rea Firma spearheaded the event in cooperation with the CPU-JPIA President Ms. Zheandy Leigh Delos Santos, under the advisership of Dr. Rex Carton of the University of San Agustin.

The Board of Accountancy is tasked with conducting the examination to qualify CPAs, and, in consultation with the Philippine Institute of CPAs, promulgate the necessary rules and regulations and setting professional standards for the practice of the accountancy profession. Hon. Piator is the Secretary-designate of the Board of Accountancy and the focal person for the Accounting Teacher’s Accreditation and monitoring of schools and universities offering the BS Accountancy degree program.
