On November 27-28, 2024, the Central Philippine University – Guidance Services Center (CPU GSC) delegation attended the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (PGCA) Iloilo Chapter Conference with the theme, “EXCELSIOR: Upward and Onward to Better Human Helpers’ Competence.” The event took place at Diversion 21 Hotel, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The Centralian delegation was composed of Prof. Jessalyn Fetalsana, Prof. Marisa Dy Buco, Prof. Betty Ermitaño, Ms. Shaine Valerie Caballero-Basug, Ms. Chriselda Elaine Ador, Mr. Jeofrey Tacda Jr., Prof. Rouella Cheyenne Aberia, Ms. Denah Grace Basbas, and Ms. Dawn Grace Ornido.
“The conference focused on strengthening professional skills, introducing innovative counseling methods, and training participants as gatekeepers in schools to prevent suicide through proper intervention, management, and referrals,” Guidance Services Center – CPU wrote on their official Facebook page.
A series of insightful presentations and interactive discussions were presented to the participants in promoting and strengthening connections within the community. They also gained knowledge about the importance of continuing professional development in ensuring counselors remain effective and efficient in their respective roles.
“The GSC personnel gained valuable knowledge and tools to better support individuals and build safer, more supportive communities,” they added.
Organized by the PGCA Iloilo Chapter, the event brought together a diverse group of experts, professionals, and practitioners. This event provided a platform for participants to share innovative ideas, discuss emerging trends, and foster meaningful collaboration across various fields.
