Athletes and coaches of the CPU Golden Lions sing praises to God at the University Church.
The CPU pastoral staff led the worship service dedicating the CPU Golden Lions athletes on November 7, 2019, at 4:00 PM at the University Church. It was attended by the athletes, coaches, and university officials from the departments of Elementary, Junior High School, Senior High School, and different colleges. It has been a tradition of the CPU Sports and Athletics Office to hold a dedication service for varsity players before the Iloilo PRISAA (Private Schools Athletic Association) games start.
Mr. Edwin Laru-an, Director for Sports and Athletics, greeted all the athletes and coaches and reminded them that they carry the name of the CPU Golden Lions. As such, “every time you shoot, pass, kick, smash, run, dribble, and cheer, you are not only athletes of the CPU Golden Lions but athletes of God.”
On the other hand, Prof. Esther Rose A. Romarate, Vice President for Student Affairs, thanked everyone for their cooperation and support. She also reminded the athletes and coaches not to say “bad words” during games, and to always pray before, during, and after the game.
The Senior Pastor of the University Church, Rev. Cris Amorsolo V. Sian, preached from Hebrews 12:1-2 about “running the race with perseverance.” He challenged the athletes to be disciplined in everything that they do to achieve their goals. Most importantly, he reminded them to dedicate their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ. After he delivered the message, Rev. Sian prayed for everyone.
The Iloilo PRISAA 2019 games will start on November 12, 2019. The host of this year’s games is the University of San Agustin.
