CPU faculty and staff pose for a group photo together with University President, Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, celebrating the Christmas season in festive unity.

On Friday, December 13, Central Philippine University (CPU) faculty and staff gathered for a vibrant celebration of the Christmas season at the CPU Gymnasium. With the theme “Celebrate Christmas Glamour at Central,” the event was filled with festive spirit, fellowship, and faith, as employees donned stylish semi-formal attire in shimmering shades of gold, silver, red, and green.

The program commenced with registration, followed by an invocation led by Pastor Romela Kim Java. Prof. Sheila Java facilitated the National Anthem, and the event officially opened with welcome remarks from University President, Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy.

In his message, Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy warmly welcomed the CPU community, emphasizing the importance of unity and gratitude as one university family. He extended his appreciation to the various departments, teams, and individuals who contributed to the success of the event, as well as to the executive leadership team for their unwavering support. He reminded everyone of the true essence of Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, quoting John 3:16-17 as a reflection of God’s love and salvation.

The College of Education (COEd) shines as they take home the 1st Place award in the Caroling Contest, showcasing their talent and Christmas spirit!

“As you all know, we celebrate Christmas, which is the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ, whom God sent into the world to be our Savior. Let’s celebrate our unity as members of one big CPU community, one big family, and I pray that our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified in everything that we do here,” he said.

The Christmas message was delivered by Prof. Charlett B. Dianala, CPU Junior High School Principal, who reflected on Matthew 2:11 and the gifts offered by the Wise Men—gold, frankincense, and myrrh. She encouraged the audience to offer meaningful “GIFTS” to Jesus this season. First, Gratitude—being thankful for God’s countless blessings, as outlined in Ephesians 2:8-9 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Second, Inspiring and Inviting Others—to share faith and encourage worship, following the example of Job’s steadfastness. Third, Forgiveness—to forgive others as Jesus forgives, based on Matthew 6:14. Fourth, Time—to use time wisely for spiritual growth and fulfilling God’s purpose, as expressed in Psalm 90:12. Lastly, Service—to serve God wholeheartedly through talents and actions, as stated in Colossians 3:23-24.

Prof. Dianala closed her message with the touching story “A Box of Kisses,” highlighting love, grace, and forgiveness as the ultimate gifts. She reminded everyone that Jesus Christ remains the true center of Christmas and the greatest gift of all.

“Let’s remember the center of our celebration is Jesus Christ because the greatest gift of all is the love of Jesus Christ on the cross. When we think of the birth of Jesus, let us also think of the death of Jesus that completes the story of Christmas,” she shared.

The program was further enlivened by a special number from the Junior High School Faculty and Staff, followed by engaging games and the distribution of door prizes during a raffle draw.

The highlight of the evening was the Caroling Contest, where faculty and staff showcased their musical talents and Christmas spirit. The winners were as follows:

  • 1st Place: College of Education (COEd)
  • 2nd Place: College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)
  • 3rd Place: CPU Elementary School (CPUES)

Adding a touch of elegance to the celebration, the awarding for the Most Glamorous Attire recognized the best-dressed male and female participants, who graced the event with their festive flair. Jero Vicente Jardemil won the award for Most Glamorous Attire (Male), while Gracely Roxas was honored as the Most Glamorous Attire (Female).

The awarding ceremony was graced by CPU leaders, including Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, University President; Dr. Esther Rose A. Romarate, Vice President for Student Affairs; Dr. Florence Bogacia, Vice President for Finance and Enterprises; Engr. Dany Molina, Vice President for Administration; and Dr. Stella G. Fernandez, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. They presented cash prizes and certificates of recognition to the winners.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt closing prayer by Daisy Lynn C. Palmejar, leaving everyone with a sense of joy, unity, and gratitude as they embraced the true meaning of Christmas.

As the CPU family celebrated in glamour and grace, the event served as a reminder of the season’s message—the love of Jesus Christ, the spirit of giving, and the unity of a community anchored in faith. Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year to the entire CPU community!
