Prof. Janet Jaco presents samples of the component materials for the Brick benches project to Mr. Cyrus Natividad.
The CPU Elementary school continues its long-term “Eco Brick Bench” project which is an output for their Ati Community Outreach Project in Brgy. Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo City.
CPU Elementary School Principal Prof. Janet Jaco presented samples of the component materials – plastic bottles of softdrinks (1.5 liters) containing bits of plastic waste. “These will be used in constructing concrete benches in the school grounds for the Ati (Aeta) in Lanit, Jaro. The project has a target of ten units of eco brick benches,” said Jaco. There are some finished units since they started before the pandemic. She added that the strength and durability of the benches could last for many years.
Despite the home-based online classes, the CPU Elementary School is actively involved in outreach programs. As of this time, Jaco said, “we are busily preparing for the 2020-2021 commencement exercises of the Elementary School students. 138 students will march for their virtual graduation this year.”
In May 2021, an in-service training will be conducted for the CPU Elementary School Teachers. “This should prepare them for the next battle for the next school year,” Jaco said. “It will be a refreshing weekly activity to assess and improve their competencies, skills, as well as Learning Management – Online Training”, she added.
