On October 7-8, 2024, a delegation from Central Philippine University (CPU), led by Dr. Irving Domingo L. Rio, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Prof. Lesley Joy L. Dignadice, Director for Local and International Linkages and Affiliation Center, visited Universitas Merdeka Malang.

The visit aimed to present a series of meetings focused on improving interactions between the two universities, during which they exchanged ideas related to research, educational programs, and collaborative projects.

“Our visit aims to establish a solid partnership with Universitas Merdeka Malang (UnMer) and create more international collaboration opportunities for the students and faculty of CPU. We discussed potential areas of collaboration, such as research projects and presentations, student and faculty exchanges, and conferences that would benefit both institutions. Several ideas for research align with the various programs offered,” Prof. Lesley Joy L. Dignadice shared in an online interview.

The delegation engaged in discussions with Dr. Sukardi, Vice Rector 1 for Academic Affairs, and Pindo Tutuko, ST., MT., Ph.D., Pg. Dip, Vice Rector 4 for Cooperation. They were joined by the Deans from several faculties, including those of Economics and Business, Social and Political Sciences, Engineering, Information Technology, Law, Tourism, and the Graduate Program.

With the increasing number of international career opportunities, Prof. Dignadice emphasized the importance of equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for their future roles. “Participating in international programs will enrich the educational experience and prepare our students for success in a competitive landscape.”

On the following day, October 8, 2024, Dr. Irving Domingo L. Rio presented an informative lecture entitled “International Research and Faculty ASEAN Mobility: The CPU Experience.” In his discussion, he offered valuable insights on improving cooperation and promoting joint publications with partner universities, showcasing CPU’s successful international collaboration experiences.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Universitas Merdeka Malang for their warm hospitality and for their steadfast commitment to our partnership,” Prof. Dignadice shared.

Towards the conclusion of the visit, both universities expressed their strong commitment to strengthening their relationship, future collaborative projects, and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in their development.
