In a showdown of culinary skills, seven esteemed universities spanning Panay and Guimaras islands gathered at Robinson’s Place, Iloilo City, for the highly anticipated Culinary Challenge during the 3rd COHREP Panay Regional Skills Olympics last March 22, 2024.

Student chefs, the rising stars of the culinary world, took on the challenge, tasked to craft a Philippine Native Main Course, an appetizer, and a Filipino dessert within a tight timeframe of two hours. The competition, marked by innovation and tradition, showcased the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Among the standout creations was the culinary team’s offering from the CPU College of Hospitality Management, comprising an enticing array of flavors that tantalized the judges’ palates. Their menu boasted a fusion of traditional and contemporary Filipino cuisine:

– Appetizer: Deep-fried oyster on ukoy tortilla with tropical fruit salsa
– Main Course: Ilonggo Embutido Stuffed Pork Roulade with Carrot Puree and Side Salad
– Dessert: Bibingka Cheesecake with Guava Jam and Salted Egg Dulce de Leche

Led by the expert guidance of their coaches, Dr. Armando Hisuan Jr., Maria Patricia Bayot, and Ian Jorda, the student chefs, all currently enrolled in the CPU Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) program and in their 3rd year of study, demonstrated skill, creativity, and teamwork.

After a fierce culinary battle, the CPU College of Hospitality Management culinary team emerged victorious, clinching the title of Champion in the Culinary Challenge. Their exceptional performance not only secured their place in the history of culinary excellence but also underscored the dedication and talent of the budding chefs.

The triumphant team members, Shane Kevin S. Agravante, Matt Joel G. Osunero, and Jan Joshua P. Pano, exemplified the commitment to culinary mastery and innovation that defines the spirit of the competition.
