CPU CMLS interns rise to the challenge at Certamen 2026’s hands-on laboratory competition.

The Central Philippine University College of Medical Laboratory Science (CPU CMLS) held the Certamen Medicinae Laboratorium Scientia 2026 on February 10, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Alumni Promenade Concert Park.

Ten teams representing the college’s various laboratory departments competed in a day-long, scenario-based event that tested their professional skills and teamwork. The interns demonstrated precision, efficiency, and resourcefulness under pressure as they navigated simulated laboratory tasks, covering areas such as phlebotomy and clinical chemistry.

The program opened at 8:00 a.m., followed by the first round of competitions, which ran until 12:30 p.m. After a lunch break, the contest resumed in the afternoon and culminated in an awarding ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

Group 5 emerged as the overall champion, whereas Groups 2 and 1 placed second and third, respectively. Judges evaluated not only the participants’ technical knowledge but also their teamwork, adherence to protocols, and ability to solve problems under pressure, which are essential competencies in the field of medical laboratory science.

The Certamen Medicinae Laboratorium Scientia 2026 provided interns with the opportunity to apply their classroom learning in a dynamic, real-world setting. Beyond competition, the event fostered collaboration, critical thinking, and camaraderie, further strengthening the CPU CMLS community.

Throughout the day, the interns were challenged to think critically, collaborate effectively, and act with precision, demonstrating their readiness to meet the demands of the profession.
