Dreams Take Flight! 41 CHM students, together with Prof. Ismael A. Almajar Jr., SIAP Coordinator, pose for a group photo at Ninoy Aquino International Airport before embarking on their international internship journey to Thailand.
Central Philippine University’s College of Hospitality Management (CPU-CHM) marked a significant milestone as 41 fourth-year students began their six-month international internship under the Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP) in the Kingdom of Thailand. Accompanied by Prof. Ismael A. Almajar Jr., SIAP Coordinator, the students departed from Ninoy Aquino International Airport on December 20, 2024.
The program was preceded by a dedication ceremony held on December 17, 2024, at the CHM Fine Dining Room. The heartwarming event was organized by the CHM SIAP Office and graced by esteemed guests, including CHM Dean Medalla P. Baliao, MBM, Prof. Ismael A. Almajar Jr., MBM, Rev. Dr. Francis Neil G. Jalando-on, and CHM faculty and staff.
During the dedication ceremony, Dean Baliao reminded the students of their responsibilities as representatives of the university, urging them to uphold the rules and standards of both their host establishments and the University. She also emphasized gratitude towards their families, guardians, and all who made this opportunity possible.
The students are currently undergoing their internship training at prestigious high-end properties in Phuket and Krabi, Thailand. They are engaged in key hospitality roles, including housekeeping, front office, kitchen and food and beverage, and guest relations. This international internship offers them a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a multicultural environment, further enhancing their global competitiveness and professional expertise.
Prof. Almajar shared insights into the preparations for the students’ journey. The CHM SIAP Office ensured that students were ready for the cultural and professional demands of working abroad by strictly following guidelines under CHED Memorandum Order 10, s.2023. The students were reminded to excel in their roles and adapt to Thailand’s diverse cultural environment, a top tourist destination known for its multicultural clientele.
Accommodations for the students have been arranged across six hotel properties in Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak, and Khanom. Industry partner Art of Travel will facilitate the students’ smooth transition upon their arrival in Thailand.
The CHM faculty and staff will provide constant monitoring and evaluation through dedicated communication channels and a planned visit to the students in April 2025.
Prof. Almajar highlighted the broader goals of the SIAP program, including promoting global competitiveness, enriching the students’ work values and competencies, and enhancing the BS Tourism and Hospitality Management degree program. “The primary objective of this program is to serve and excel for God’s greater glory,” he added.
The program runs until June 2025, giving students an invaluable opportunity to develop their skills, broaden their horizons, and contribute to the university’s vision of academic excellence and global reach.
