The Universitas Merdeka, through its ongoing academic collaboration, successfully hosted the 5th International Conference on Hospitality and Tourism Studies (5th ICONHOSTS) with the theme “Future on a Plate: IoT, Gastronomy & Diplomacy for a Sustainable World.” The international gathering was held on October 29, 2025, at the Best Western Kamala Hotel, Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia, bringing together scholars, industry practitioners, and professionals from across Asia and beyond.

Representing the College of Hospitality Management, esteemed faculty members Dr. Myrna T. Luceño, Dr. Armando Hisuan Jr., and Dr. Maria Amihan T. Panes proudly participated in the conference. Notably, Dr. Panes served as one of the distinguished speakers, delivering an insightful presentation on “Destination Branding through Human Resource Management.”

The College’s research delegation achieved another milestone by winning the Best Paper Award, prevailing over numerous entries from participating countries. This recognition underscores the College’s growing influence and commitment to advancing global research and innovation in the fields of hospitality and tourism.

The conference was attended by delegates from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, and the Netherlands, fostering a vibrant platform for international collaboration, scholarly exchange, and cross-cultural learning among educators, researchers, and industry leaders.

Following the conference, delegates were treated to a memorable dinner experience at Cuca, one of Bali’s renowned Michelin-standard restaurants, curated by Chef Kunto Aji, featuring an exquisite nine-course meal that celebrated Indonesian gastronomy at its finest.

The College of Hospitality Management extends its deepest appreciation to Dean Ma. Medalla P. Baliao for her steadfast encouragement and leadership and to the Central Philippine University Administration, headed by Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, for their continuous support in fostering academic excellence, international engagement, and global competitiveness among faculty and students alike.
