Various government and non-government organizations and institutions showcase their service and program in Brgy. San Rafael, San Remigio, Antique.

The month of October is declared as National Indigenous Peoples’ Month, which recognizes and promotes the rights of indigenous peoples and indigenous cultural communities. Specifically, one of the indigenous peoples is the Iraynon-Bukidnon residing in the upland part of the municipality of San Remigio, Antique, the chosen beneficiaries of this activity.

Aside from Central Philippine University, the University of Antique (UA), Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U), Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST), Guimaras State University (GSU), and West Visayas State University (WVSU) are the academic institutions that joined in this information service and program caravan.

Further, the caravan also conducted medical and dental missions, job fairs, the provision of national ID and birth certificates, legal aid, distribution of school supplies and hygiene kits, provision of slippers, seedlings of fruit trees, and hand pumps, among others, during this information service and program caravan.

On the first day of the activity, the provincial governor of Antique, Hon. Paolo Everardo S. Javier, met the participants from various government and non-government organizations. He expressed his gratitude for choosing the province of Antique in this social development initiative. Also, the municipal mayor of San Remigio, Margarito C. Mission Jr, welcomes the participants, expresses his gratitude for the activity, and gives the challenges, accomplishments, and plans for the municipality.

On the second day, the participants went to one of the selected integrated public schools for the dedication of the “Balay Darayunan”, which is a residential house inside the school campus for students in the remote areas, the Brgy. Aningalan in the municipality is considered a geographically isolated and disadvantaged area, where transportation to basic social services, such as school and healthcare, is very challenging. In this school, the University pledged to provide mosquito nets, fellow cases, mats, and bath towels, in addition to iodized salt, which is crucial to the health of indigenous peoples in mountainous areas due to micronutrient deficiency. It is also a way for the University to prevent revolutionary groups from operating in the area. After this, the participants interviewed selected DSWD Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (4Ps) beneficiaries about the conditional cash transfer program.

On the last day, various government and non-government organizations showcased their programs and services to the indigenous peoples. Among them were the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA); Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry, Public Attorneys Office (PAO), Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)-Antique, PhilHealth, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev) and others.
