CPU extends heartfelt congratulations to Major General Luis Rex D. Bergante on his promotion.

Central Philippine University (CPU) proudly celebrated the promotion of Major General Luis Rex D. Bergante to the rank of three-star General Officer in a ceremony presided over by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. at Camp Panacan on June 7, 2024. This significant achievement is a source of immense pride for the Centralian community, highlighting the university’s role in nurturing leaders who excel in their fields.

Major General Bergante, a distinguished alumnus of CPU, began his educational journey at CPU’s kindergarten in 1975, graduated from its elementary school in 1981, and completed high school in 1985. His promotion to Lieutenant General and appointment as Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career.

In a change of command ceremony, Bergante succeeded Major General Jose Maria Cuerpo II, the acting commander of EastMinCom and current 4th Infantry Division commander based in Cagayan de Oro City. He is committed to addressing the insurgency problem in the EastMinCom area, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and post-conflict reconciliation efforts.

Prior to this appointment, Bergante served as the 59th Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Army, from February 27, 2023. A proud member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990, he graduated seventh in his class.
