CPU College of Agriculture, Research and Environmental Sciences (CARES) Dean Dr. Jaime Cabarles presented the advance equipment and facilities for its successful research and production of Philippine Native Chicken. “The productive agricultural research has been a result of dedicated study and involves not only scientific objectives, but realistically, production and market competency, which must be supported by new technologies.” This was explained by Dean Cabarles during the recently concluded DA-CPU Agrifair.
He presented new and efficient laboratory equipment for native chickens at the College of Agriculture Research Center in CPU, and added that “Our Research Center has a potential for production and supply for the market.”
The equipment are capable of testing and research on microbial pathogens and microorganism, hematological blood testing; In vivo test in live animals and Molecular Assisted Selection as well. The Native Chicken has been a focus of study, as such the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture has a specialization on commercial production of native chicken.
CARES has been certified Level III by PAASCU and hence, has become a Center of Excellence (COE). From Basic Research in 2002 to 2010, it has developed technology packages for commercial production. It has advanced to Commercial Research in 2011 up to the present. Cabarles added that “The College of Agriculture has been a Topnotcher from 2018 to 2019
As a Research Center for Philippine Native Chicken, according to Cabarles, “CPU CARES is now capable of commercial production of native chicken. And as a Research Center for Product Development, it has a potential of producing products for sale,” he added.
Finally, Dr. Cabarles said, “In becoming a Technology Business Center, CPU CARES can establish a commercialize Market for native chickens.”
