CPU welcomes Poland Ambassador

Central Philippine University welcomed His Excellency Jarosław Szczepankiewicz, Ambassador of Poland to the Philippines, on October 7, 2022.

Ambassador Szczepankiewicz met with Dr. Teodoro C. Robles and members of the CPU Administration to discuss about possible partnerships between Polish universities and CPU. Together with Ambassador Jaroslaw Szczepankiewicz were Ms. Anna Krzak-Danel, Minister Counsellor, and Ms. Jermaine Bohol, Expert, Political Economic Section. Ms. Krzak-Danel talked about scholarships that Filipino students can avail to be able to study in Poland. Also, during the meeting, an invitation for the film showing of the Polish movie, Never Snow Again, was also extended to the members of the CPU Administration. Never Snow Again was one of the movies featured in Cine Europa and was shown at Cinematheque Iloilo.

With Dr. Robles during the courtesy meeting were Dr. Irving Domingo L. Rio, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Florence P. Bogacia, Vice President for Finance and Administration; Dr. Esther Rose A. Romarate, Vice President for Student Affairs; Dr. Anna Yap-Zerrudo, Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center; Prof. Kay Arden Q. Gallo, Acting Director of the Office of Local and International Linkages and Affairs Center (formerly the Office of International Relations and Cooperation); and Dr. Annalee L. Cocjin, Acting Chairperson of the Department of Languages, Mass Communication, and Humanities.

Griffith University’s Prof. Andrew Davey, Director, International (Health) paid a visit to CPU on October 10, 2022 and had a roundtable discussion with College of Pharmacy’s Acting Dean, Prof. Vinz Militante; College of Medical Laboratory Science’s Dean, Dr. Corazon Porras; and College of Nursing’s representatives, Prof. Lena Giron and Mr. Alvin John Gustilo. The roundtable discussion focused on possible partnerships between the allied health sciences programs of both universities. Prof. Davey was also given a tour of the CPU laboratories including the one at the College of Agriculture, Resources, and Environmental Sciences (CARES). Dr. Jaime Cabarles, Jr., CARES Dean, shared with Prof. Davey the current research collaboration between the College of Pharmacy and CARES.

Before the roundtable discussion and tour of the laboratories, Prof. Davey had a courtesy meeting with CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles.

Griffith University is one of the recent partner universities of CPU through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two parties early in 2022.

 

CPU joins EduCanada Pathways to Partnerships Session

Central Philippine University joined the EduCanada Pathways to Partnerships Session, an event organized by the Embassy of Canada to the Philippines.

The event was an opportunity for CPU to network with educational institutions and reconnect with existing partner schools in Canada. There were also presentations on the Canada-SEED Experience and the Discovery Camp Experience – University Mobility of Asia and the Pacific (UMAP). A presentation on Aligning Internationalization with the UN Sustainable Development Goals was given by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE).

CPU was represented by Dr. Anna May Zerrudo and Prof. Sharlene G. Gotico, Director and Associate Director, respectively, of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center (QAAC).

The event was held on October 21 – 22, 2022 in Grand Hyatt Hotel, BGC, Taguig, Metro Manila.

 

CPU participates in AIEC 2022

CPU was one of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for the Philippines that participated in the 2022 Australia International Education Conference (AIEC) in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

AIEC is an annual gathering which provides networking and learning opportunities to its participants. The conference also highlights innovative approaches to common challenges in international education through keynotes, expert panel sessions, sharing of best practices, case studies, industry insights, market intelligence, and the latest research.
Prof. Kay Arden Q. Gallo, the Acting Director of the Local and International Linkages and Affairs Center (LILAC) represented CPU to AIEC 2022. Aside from participating in various conference sessions, Prof. Gallo, together with representatives from AusTrade Manila, the Commission on Higher Education, and other state universities and private HEIs from the Philippines, also met with Australian universities and Australia’s Ministry of Education to discuss about academic and cultural partnerships.

AEIC 2022 was held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Center from October 18-21, 2022.
