In celebration of the International Day for Biodiversity on May 22, 2025, the Office of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean, the Province of Arts and Sciences Student Council, and the CPU Sustainable Campus Committee came together for a meaningful community outreach held at Katunggan Eco Park in Leganes, Iloilo.
Guided by this year’s theme, “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development,” the event aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the crucial role biodiversity plays in building a more sustainable and resilient future. Katunggan Eco Park, with its rich mangrove ecosystem, served as the perfect venue to connect participants with nature and highlight the urgent need to protect our natural resources.
The day featured an educational eco-walk, mangrove planting activity, and active dialogues with local environmental stewards. These activities were not only informative but also empowered students and community members to become proactive guardians of the environment, with over 20 mangrove seedlings planted and a reinforced oath for nature.
This outreach emphasizes the vital message that sustainability begins with awareness, action, and a united effort to preserve biodiversity for generations to come.
Call to action statement:
Humanity depends on nature, and on this International Day for Biodiversity, we renew our commitment to live in harmony with the ecosystems that sustain us. Through simple yet impactful actions like planting trees, reducing waste, and raising awareness, we help build a more sustainable future.
We can no longer afford to turn a blind eye or deafen our ears to the cries of our ailing planet. The loss of biodiversity and the degradation of our ecosystems demand our full attention and urgent action. Let us open our eyes to the reality of our environmental responsibilities and listen closely to the call for sustainable change. Now is the time to act. Not with silence or indifference, but with purpose, unity, and unwavering resolve.
May Katunggan Eco Park stand as a symbol of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve biodiversity for generations to come.
