The 3rd Social Work Pinning Ceremony and 1st face-to-face celebration of the College of Arts and Sciences – BS Social Work Department was held on August 30, 2023 at the Rose Memorial Auditorium, with the theme: Handum, Katutom, kag Pagtuo: Bridging People through Advocacies and Service.

The program started at 1:30 with a processional of the 4th Yr. BSSW students, parents and guardians. An opening prayer followed with the singing of the National Anthem and the CPU Hymn Central, My Central.

Prof. Kareen Kay D. Lozada RSW, MSSW, Chairperson Social Work Department, delivered her opening remarks. Lozada said that “This Pinning Ceremony signifies the send-off activity of our graduating students to the communities; on a two -semester supervised OJT social work assignment.”

The Rationale of the Program was explained by Miss Divine Grace M. Sorioso RSW-Adviser, JSWAP CPU Chapter. She said, “The Social work pinning ceremony recognizes the graduating students with the professional social worker pin. She challenged the graduating students to accept the opportunities and challenges.”

In her words of Encouragement, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Stella G. Fernandez emphasized that, “in times of disasters and calamities, it is the social workers who respond first; you will be one of them.” She added that, “This is like a commissioning with a name tag later on – with which you shall carry not only the name of your family, but also Central Philippine University.” The other speakers, Prof. Carol Kaye C. Blando RSW, MSW and Jett Louis C. Dumlao, RSW congratulated the graduating students and sent their words of encouragement as they start off on their mission to serve.

Sherina Lizada, JSWAP CPU Chapter introduced the Guest Speaker, Luna Moscoso – Promotive Division Chief DSWD 6. Moscoso encouraged the would-be Social Workers to embrace their jobs and service to the communities.

There were three batches of recipients of the Social Worker pins. The distribution of certificates was administered by JSWAP-CPU Chapter VP for External Affairs Anthony B. Lorca. Chapter President Anabelle De Los Santos delivered her closing remarks.
Kudos to Lureyns Lorana BSSW, Jekemiah Señeres,BSSW, and Anthony Lorca for the intermission numbers.
