Students from CPU’s College of Medical Laboratory Science brought health education to life on May 17, 2025, as they led a community outreach in Brgy. Lanit, Jaro, promoting hygiene, nutrition, and the fight against parasitism among children.
Last May 17, 2025, students from the College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS) of Central Philippine University stepped out of the classroom and into the community with a mission: to fight parasitism and promote hygiene and nutrition among children.
With the theme “Clean Hands, Healthy Lives: Fighting Parasitism Through Hygiene and Nutrition,” the outreach program was held at Brgy. Lanit, Jaro, and organized by the CPU’s Medical Laboratory Science Society (MLSS) and the CMLS Provincial Student Council (PSC). It brought together over 88 children aged 5 to 15 for an interactive day of learning, feeding, and wellness.
The event featured an engaging lecture on parasitic infections, covering how they spread and how children can protect themselves. This was followed by a hands-on handwashing demonstration, where students guided children through proper hygiene practices and emphasized its role in preventing the spread of disease.
To support children’s nutritional needs, the organizers also hosted a feeding program that includes healthy meals like Arrozcaldo, Pandesal, and refreshments. Each child received a hygiene kit containing shampoo, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and educational materials.
The activity was carried out with the support of Brgy. Lanit officials, under the supervision of CPU faculty members, ensuring a safe and well-coordinated program.
