The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Director, Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, Jr., along with a team of 10 CHED Education Supervisors held a comprehensive on-site monitoring evaluation at Central Philippine University (CPU) on August 15-16, 2023. The evaluation focused on assessing various aspects of the university’s graduate and undergraduate programs.

The CHED supervisors also evaluated special concerns such as Student Services, Scholarships, Tuition and other School Fees, Face-to-Face Delivery, and more. This assessment is a crucial step towards ensuring that the institution adheres to the highest standards in providing quality education and student support services.

During the evaluation period, CHED officials reviewed the activities and performance of various colleges and departments within the university. The team focused on evaluating the degree programs’ compliance to their respective policies, standards, and guidelines and the university’s various structures and systems.

On the second day of the evaluation, August 16, 2023, the CHED Regional Director, Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, Jr., along with the CHED Supervisors, presented their comprehensive findings to a gathering of CPU’s Administration Officials, Deans, and Academic Heads. The presentation provided insights into both commendable practices and areas that require improvement and immediate action.

The findings and recommendations generated from this evaluation are expected to be pivotal in the university’s pursuit for the re-accreditation of its Autonomous Status—a recognition that reflects the institution’s capacity for self-governance and its commitment to excellence. CPU will soon submit its documents to the CHED’s national office pending the recommendation of the CHED Regional Office 6.

CPU was first granted Autonomous Status by CHED in 2001. There were continuous evaluations and accreditations throughout the years. The last validity of the autonomous period was from June 1, 2021 until May 31, 2023.
