A Moment of Reflection: The Centralian community gathers for a week of spiritual renewal during the Christ Emphasis Week (CEW), centered on the theme “QUENCHED!” based on John 7:38 and Isaiah 58:11.
Central Philippine University (CPU) hosted its Christ Emphasis Week (CEW) for the First Semester of School Year 2024-2025 from October 21-25, 2024. The week-long event took place at various locations across the campus, centering on the theme “QUENCHED!” inspired by Scriptures from John 7:38 and Isaiah 58:11. This CEW focused on the idea that true fulfillment and lasting joy can only be found in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, referred to as “The Living Water.”
The week commenced with a convocation for faculty and staff on October 18, led by Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, University President. He emphasized the significance of spiritual nourishment and encouraged everyone in the Centralian community—students, families, and friends—to actively participate. He also called for prayers for all involved in the week’s activities, hoping for transformative encounters through God’s word.
Rev. Roger T. Quimpo was the guest speaker for the faculty and staff convocation. He recounted the story of Zacchaeus, illustrating how Jesus seeks to save the lost and offering a message of hope and transformation. His emphasis on personal encounters with Jesus resonated with the audience, prompting reflection on their spiritual journeys.
The following day, the NSTP Convocation featured 2nd Lt. Artemio I. Rominquit (Ret.), who expressed joy in gathering to celebrate God’s goodness. Pastor Marlon Victoria, the guest speaker, drew parallels between Jesus’ invitation to the thirsty and the spiritual longing for fulfillment, emphasizing that only Jesus can satisfy our deepest needs.
Starting on October 21, various convocations were held for the Junior High School, Senior High School, and different colleges. Rev. Albert Mark A. Java delivered impactful messages, urging students to acknowledge their spiritual thirst and seek fulfillment in God rather than in worldly achievements. He used the story of the Samaritan woman at the well to emphasize how Jesus offers the “living water” that quenches spiritual thirst.
Other speakers, including Ms. Sharlyn Joy Velasquez, Rev. Karel D. Victoria, and Pastor Pua Palakiko, reinforced the theme by addressing the importance of identity, purpose, and the necessity of a personal relationship with Jesus. They encouraged students to turn away from superficial pursuits and to recognize their need for Christ.
Due to the recent typhoon that affected the region, the CEW convocations from October 23 to 25 were broadcasted via the CPU TV Channel Facebook page, ensuring that the message of hope and spiritual nourishment reached all students despite class suspensions.
The Christ Emphasis Week concluded with a powerful message from Hon. Judge Mark Anthony Polonan, who highlighted Jesus’ offering of “living water” and its transformative power in our lives. He emphasized that spiritual fulfillment is available to everyone, urging attendees to embrace this gift and share their experiences with others.
Rev. Dr. Dagohoy’s opening remarks echoed throughout the week, reminding everyone of the significance of the CEW as a time for spiritual renewal and an opportunity to encounter the “Living Water” that quenches our deepest thirst. As the Centralian community reflected on the week’s teachings, they were encouraged to embrace a journey of faith that leads to true satisfaction and joy in their lives.
The Christ Emphasis Week convocation for the Senior High School airs via the CPU TV Channel Facebook page. The new schedule for the Praise Jam will be announced once it is finalized. Kindly monitor the CPU Website and the official social media pages of the University for updates.
