CPU-College of Medicine achieved awards at the 12th APMC-SN Visayas-wide convention held from April 4 to 6, 2024.

Central Philippine University College of Medicine (CPU-COM) clinched several accolades at the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges – Student Network (APMC-SN) Visayas Regional Assembly, which took place from April 4 to 6 at the University of Visayas Gullas College of Medicine and Cebu Doctor’s University.

Under the theme “HABLON 2024: Integrating Medical Schools Toward a Colorful Tapestry of Excellence and Distinction,” the convention aimed to foster spirited competition and camaraderie among medical students from various higher education institutions.

Representatives from CPU-COM emerged victorious in multiple categories, including the Medical Quiz Bee, Healthcare Innovations Competition (HCI) with their project “Amilig,” and Translational/Clinical Sciences Research Competition, where Katrina Isabel Tumaneng was recognized as the Best Speaker. They also secured the first runner-up position in the Interscholastic Debate and landed in the top five in the Basic Science Research Category. Furthermore, they clinched two out of three championship titles in the Palarong Pinoy.

In the pageant night, Ava Victoria Liwag outshone five contestants from various Visayas-based medical schools to be crowned Miss APMC-SN. She also received recognition for Best in Production Number and Best in Advocacy. On the other hand, Joseph Angelo Pabalinas took home the titles of Best in Production Number, Best in School Uniform, and secured the first runner-up position.

In addition, CPU-COM, along with its Medicine Student Council for AY 2022-2023 led by former Governor Mark Ang, received the Gold Awardee for Good Governance and secured the Project of the Year Award. Their committees also achieved notable success, with the Academics Committee, under the leadership of Ms. Sofia Abenir, clinching first place, and the Conventions Committee, led by Mr. Paolo Peñaflor, securing second place.

The victorious individuals and teams will proceed to the AMPC-SN National Convention, scheduled for May 3-5 this year at the UNILAB Bayanihan Center in Pasig City, Philippines.

APMC-SN serves as a unifying force for over 50 medical institutions and 20,000 student council members, constituting the largest and most influential alliance of Filipino medical students.
