On August 4, 2024, the Presidential Communications Office announced the list of newly appointed officials under the Department of Education (DepEd), including Atty. Peter Irving C. Corvera, a distinguished Centralian and Chairman of the CPU Board of Trustees (BOT).
Atty. Corvera is an alumnus of CPU High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce (Accounting) in 1990 from Central Philippine University. He also served as the Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman from 2011–2017 and 2021 until July 2024 at the said institution.
“I knew that sooner or later, something that would draw me out from the comforts of retirement… So here I am, embarking on another journey, with all its challenges, to uplift Philippine education under a Secretary who, I believe, can make it happen,” Atty. Corvera wrote in his Facebook post.
Additionally, he was the former Undersecretary for Public Safety of the Department of Interior and Local Government from 2014 to July of 2016. He directly supervised the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and assisted the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government in supervising the Philippine National Police on operational matters.
CPU President Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy expressed immense pride in Atty. Corvera’s appointment through a Facebook post. “Thank you for your invaluable and sterling service to your Alma Mater as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. You will be missed here at Central, but you have been tasked to serve our country in a much higher capacity. CPU is proud of you, we support you, and we are praying for you!”
