Centralian Pearl Suyo, a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2011, is now paving the way as the new Assistant Welcome Office Manager at W Toronto.
Centralian Pearl Suyo, a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2011 under the College of Hospitality and Management (CHM), exemplifies the resilience and dedication characteristic of a Centralian. Her unwavering commitment and perseverance to excellence has led her to become the new Assistant Welcome Office Manager at W Toronto. In her journey, she does not only underscore her personal successes, but also become a testament as how to embody the values and live the mission imparted by Central Philippine University.
Raised in Central, she proudly identifies as a third-generation Centralian on her mother’s side. Pearl was honored to receive the Loyalty Award for completing her education from kindergarten through college at CPU. Her family actively participated in the University Church, contributing to camps, singing in the choir, and engaging in various church activities.
“One of my proudest moments as a Centralian was serving as Governor of the College of Hospitality Management from 2009 to 2010,” she recalls. “Additionally, I had the incredible opportunity to represent CPU at the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA) conference in South Korea in 2010. These experiences have profoundly shaped my journey and commitment to Central Philippine University. Right after my college graduation, I flew to New York for my 12-month internship in a Golf & Country Club. I was blessed to be the first Centralian under the Hospitality program to have this opportunity.”
In an online interview, she shared that her primary responsibility is to support the Welcome Operations in delivering exceptional guest experiences while upholding the hotel’s luxury standards. Moreover, she also has the task of collaborating with other departments to optimize revenue and ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the said hotel. Having recently started this role, Suyo acknowledges that there is still much to learn to better support the team and contribute to the ongoing success of W Hotel in Toronto.
When she was asked how CPU helped her achieve such position, Pearl Suyo expressed her gratefulness: “The foundation of EXCEL: Exemplary Christian Education for Life was truly instrumental in my personal development and has shaped my professional journey. By placing the Lord at the center of every decision and interaction, I’ve found guidance in my daily life, which has been pivotal in helping me secure this role.”
She also shared that during her time at CPU, she had numerous experiences that significantly contributed to her career development which she is truly grateful for. A standout aspect is how CPU continues to innovate, elevate, and strengthen its position in the industry. When she was in college, the hospitality management program was still in its early stages, and she takes pride in the fact that her mother, Dr. Perla Suyo, played a vital role in pioneering the program. Under Dr. Suyo’s leadership and guidance, students were encouraged to widen their horizons both locally and internationally through domestic and global tours, skill-building on-the-job trainings, and experiential international internships. These experiences have been essential in equipping Centralians with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful careers in their industry.
To students aspiring to build such career just like her, she offered this insightful advice: “First, one of my favorite Bible verses, Jeremiah 29:11, has always been a source of strength and guidance: ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ It’s a powerful reminder to trust in God’s plan and surrender your ambitions to Him. Secondly, never stop challenging yourself. Embrace new opportunities, be open to learning, and constantly push your boundaries. These are key to growth, both personally and professionally.”
She cannot express enough how much the Centralian community means to her. It’s a global network that continues to grow. Since arriving in Toronto in 2019, she has connected with many Centralians who have welcomed her like family. They are all excited for the 2025 global reunion, which will bring alumni from around the world together.
“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has played a part in my growth and for all the prayers that have supported me along the way. Your contributions mean the world to me.”
Centralian Pearl Suyo’s appointment to her new position is a source of great pride for CPU, showcasing her unwavering dedication and exceptional ability to thrive in fast-paced environments. Her remarkable story serves as an inspiration to the community and a reminder of the potential that lies within each Centralian to make a significant impact in their chosen fields.
