Centralian Bikers pose at the Alimodian quarry site.
A vigorous physical activity is currently “trending’” with Centralian employees. They have been seen riding their bikes on weekends and strengthen their camaraderie. For Prof. Rodel C. Palomar, Human Resource Development Office Director, “It could be due to the closures of gyms in Iloilo City that this outdoor endurance activity was well accepted.” CPU Lifestyle Center is temporarily closed as well while health protocol on COVID-19 is enforced in the University.
Palomar, who has been a biking enthusiast for twenty years, joins the CPU employees in their out-of-town tours and appreciates the activity. He said that “the activity is good for health, especially on early mornings.” He added that “one can inhale fresh air and be refreshed in the countryside. You feel a new horizon with the sky, mountains, rivers and farms. It’s exhilarating.”
The bikers start off early morning to any part of the city or outside the city. The trip goes longer on weekends; reaching on to other municipalities and farther destinations. The Centralians would always start their biking activity with a prayer.
The biking trips are voluntary and present a good opportunity for employees to meet one another and exchange ideas during stopovers. On the other hand, the employees provide themselves with wholesome time to build up physically and energize themselves. “Owning a bike is a good investment. It is useful as a transport vehicle going to CPU every day,” said one of the enthusiastic biking employees.
Palomar however reminds every participant to be very careful, be mindful of the terrains and accidents; and also to take precautionary measures to avoid the COVID-19.
