Central Philippine University student named among Top 10 Jose Rizal Model Students.

Central Philippine University (CPU) is delighted to announce that one of its students has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Jose Rizal Model Students in the country. Ms. Jennifer Erika Angeles, a 4th year BS Social Work student, was awarded this honor during the 34th Annual Search for the Ten Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines, Collegiate Level by the Knights of Rizal (KOR) chartered under R.A. No. 646 on December 30, 2023.

The nationwide search aims to recognize students who best epitomize Rizalian qualities of academic excellence and leadership in campus and community activities, serving as role models to the youth. Out of hundreds of universities across the country, there were only 28 official entries and only 10 awardees.

Angeles, an active student leader, community volunteer, advocate of mental health, and public servant, was recognized for her outstanding contributions to her community and her commitment to excellence in both her academic and extracurricular pursuits.

“It was a wonderful experience, I have learned a lot and enjoyed the whole process,” Angeles shared, “Though it was a search for the best student, it did not feel like a competition. Instead, it made us all unite to continue what we are doing, for we contribute to the betterment of our nation. Truly, ‘ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan’,” she added, quoting the famous line of Gat Jose Rizal.

As one of the Top 10 Finalists, Angeles was awarded on Rizal Day at the International Headquarters of the Knights of Rizal. She also joined President Marcos in leading the 127th anniversary of Rizal’s martyrdom in Luneta.

“I believe that if we enrich our light, we will be able to become a light to others, for there is hope within us, just like our national hero, Jose Rizal,” said Angeles.

This recognition is another trophy to CPU’s cap and a testament to the university’s commitment to developing leaders who embody the values of academic excellence, service, and social responsibility.
