The Alumni Promenade Concert Park was abuzz with excitement on May 23 and 24, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon, as students from BS Tourism Management and BS Hospitality Management showcased their learning in a vibrant two-day cultural celebration. This event was a collaborative effort among students enrolled in “Philippine Culture and Tourism Geography” (THC 1203) and “Global Culture and Tourism Geography” (TPC 1201), under the guidance of Prof. Judah-El Bañas, Prof. Grace Joy Somosierra, and Prof. James Antonio. It served as the final project for these students, highlighting their learning throughout the semester.
Day 1: “Byaheng Pinoy: Journey through Filipino Culture”
The first day, themed “Byaheng Pinoy: Journey through Filipino Culture,” was dedicated to the THC 1203 Philippine Culture, Tourism, and Geography subject. Students from BS Tourism Management and BS Hospitality Management first-year classes transformed the venue into a bustling fairground. Each booth represented a different region of the Philippines, showcasing unique tourist attractions and traditional foods. Attendees were immersed in the distinct flavors and sights of the Philippines.
Mesmerizing dance performances captivated audiences with their grace and rhythm, as the main stage came alive with traditional dances and music. Performers in vibrant traditional attire and authentic songs highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines, bringing the diverse stories and histories of the Filipino people to life.
Day 2: Navigating the Diversity of Global Culture and Traditions
On its 2nd day, first-year BS Tourism Management students prepared their respective booths displaying different continents, their unique foods, and tourist attractions.
The second day expanded the celebration globally with the theme “Navigating the Diversity of Global Culture and Traditions,” focusing on the TPC 1201 subject. First-year BS Tourism Management students dedicated booths to different continents, showcasing unique foods, dances, and tourist attractions, providing an educational and culinary journey around the world.
Models in traditional attire enhanced the experience by offering insightful explanations about the foods and attractions. The stage featured captivating performances of traditional dances and music from around the world, offering a glimpse into the cultural richness and diversity of various regions.
Organized with meticulous attention to detail and a passion for cultural appreciation, the event was a resounding success. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the program committee, guiding professors, group leaders, and enthusiastic students, the celebration not only entertained but also educated and inspired attendees.
“This event truly opened my eyes to the beauty and diversity of cultures both within and beyond the Philippines’ borders,” said Ms. Deanna Gay, an international student from England studying a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences, echoing the sentiment of many who participated in this vibrant cultural fest.
