CAS Praise Team led the devotional service.

In a landmark move, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) has inaugurated a new approach to spiritual enrichment with the introduction of departmental devotional gatherings. Witnessing a historic turnout, more than 200 students from various year levels of the Social Sciences Department convened at the University Church for a deeply transformative experience.

Guided by the dedicated Christian Life Committee Representatives, Prof. Debbie Marsha Sian, Ms. Jane Marie Tamayo, and Mr. Jett Louis Dumlao, this initiative marks a pivotal moment in the university’s dedication to fostering the spiritual growth of its student body. Departing from conventional college-wide conventions, these departmental devotions aim to cultivate an intimate atmosphere conducive to celebrating the Christian life of students and promoting holistic development beyond academic prowess.

The convocation commenced with the solemn verse of Matthew 21:22, setting the stage for a reflective and spiritually enlightening session. Anchored around the Scripture text from Exodus 15:22-27, Pastor Justine Palmes-Mije delivered a profound message that resonated deeply with attendees, emphasizing the importance of spiritual nourishment in navigating life’s challenges.

The event not only served as a celebration of students’ spiritual relationships but also provided a platform for the dissemination of the word of God. Attendance at these devotional gatherings is mandatory for all department students, underscoring their integral role in the university’s spiritual fabric.

The CAS departamental devotional at the UC was well-attended.

Reflecting on the success of the inaugural devotional, Prof. Sian expressed her delight at the overwhelming response from Social Sciences Department students. She noted how students were not only receptive to the message but also found solace and guidance in the scriptures and songs shared during the gathering.

As part of the ongoing initiative, online devotional sessions for faculty and staff will continue, with upcoming gatherings scheduled on March 13 for Chemistry. Face-to-face devotions for students are slated on March 20 for Biology and DMLCH, April 17 for Social Work and Chemistry, and April 24 for the entire CAS community, including students, faculty, and staff, as a year-end celebration.

The devotional concluded with the uplifting verse from Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” leaving attendees inspired and spiritually invigorated.

The introduction of departmental devotional programs marks a significant step forward in fostering a vibrant spiritual community within the College of Arts and Sciences, embodying the university’s commitment to holistic education and the cultivation of Centralian values.
