On December 4, 2024, the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business and Accountancy organized a rug-making seminar in Brgy. Badiang, New Lucena, Iloilo. The materials for rug-making were secondhand clothing made of cotton. Aside from CAS and CBA, various units, colleges, and departments participated in the clothes donation drive for faculty, staff, and students.
The colleges that participated were the College of Education and College of Medical Laboratory Science. The outreach activity also partnered with the departments under the College of Arts and Sciences which were the Language, Mass Communication and Humanities; Chemistry; Life Sciences; and Social Work. Meanwhile, Dr. Regina E. Samillano, the program head of Science Education at the College of Education, made some observations in the daycare center of the barangay to determine the possible activities and programs for its improvement.
Aside from Brgy. Badiang, New Lucena, the other adopted barangays will also receive additional assistance in their livelihood program about rug-making. This livelihood enhancement initiative is an idea of Prof. Gilda C. Monsole, one of the outreach coordinators of the College of Business and Accountancy.
The rug-making workshop is based on the results of the community needs assessment conducted in the community. Specifically, based on the results in the theme of gender and development, numerous women and men have no stable income and livelihood. This outreach activity aimed to improve their economic situation, reduce clothes waste, and make household materials more beneficial.
