BECED Gems students repainting the CPU Kindergarten shed as part of their Project Playground initiative.

The BECED Gems led a shed painting activity at the CPU Kindergarten from August to December 2025 as part of their Project Playground initiative. The Gems, composed of first to fourth year Bachelor of Early Childhood Education students, undertook a service initiative to repaint the storage shed located within the CPU Kindergarten grounds.

The project was completed gradually during the students’ available time, demonstrating their dedication to improving the school environment through voluntary effort. By adopting the shed as their project site, the BECED Gems helped restore and maintain an important facility used by the kindergarten. The repainting not only refreshed the structure but also contributed to a more orderly and pleasant campus setting for the children and staff who regularly use the space.

The Gems initiative reflected the role of future educators as responsible members of the school community. Beyond classroom preparation, the students showed that caring for the physical learning environment is part of creating a supportive space where children can grow and learn.

This activity contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 4: Quality Education by helping maintain a safe and conducive school environment. It aligns with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through the upkeep of shared facilities, and with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as the project was carried out by the BECED Gems with CPU Kindergarten serving as the venue and partner school.
