BECED Gems students designing and painting an interactive hopscotch area at CPU Kindergarten.

In November 2025, the BECED Gems, composed of first to fourth year Bachelor of Early Childhood Education students, implemented Project Playground, a student-led initiative aimed at creating engaging play spaces for young learners. The project was launched at CPU Kindergarten last December 2025, which served as the venue and beneficiary of the activity.

Recognizing the importance of play in early childhood development, the BECED Gems transformed a plain cemented foot walk within the kindergarten area into a colorful and interactive hopscotch play space. Through their planning, creativity, and hands-on work, the students designed and painted the game on the walkway, turning an ordinary pathway into a space where children could learn and play at the same time.

The initiative reflects the BECED Gems’ commitment to applying their knowledge of early childhood education in practical ways that benefit young learners. By creating a play-based learning space, the students helped encourage movement, coordination, counting skills, and social interaction among the children of CPU Kindergarten. The activity also demonstrated the value of service-learning, where future educators contribute meaningfully to real educational environments.

Project Playground supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by promoting active play and physical movement among children. It supports SDG 4: Quality Education by reinforcing play-based learning approaches that are essential in early childhood education.

In addition, the project aligns with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, as it enhances shared school spaces and makes them more child-friendly and inclusive. Through Project Playground, the BECED Gems demonstrated initiative, collaboration, and a strong commitment to the well-being and development of young learners, while CPU Kindergarten provided a meaningful setting where these efforts could directly benefit the children.
